$$$

I was interested in creating a hybrid film featuring real NYC characters, who in some ways, play themselves. I approached it by combining true stories with fictional ones, as well as combining documentary verité footage with guerilla narrative production to create an alternate reality – a visual representation of the generational and personal feedback loops we find ourselves in. A picture of a cage, capturing attempts at free-will.

During the shoot, real money was bet, won, and lost, reflecting the gamble of creating a film in this manner. $$$ is a love letter to NYC and the people that were born there – and of course, to the horses, who helped encapsulate the plight of the characters and were the original inspiration for the film
