In New York City, two lifelong friends attempt to escape their lot in life by illicit means, but when they accrue a fatal debt, the track becomes their only shot at salvation.

$$$ is an independent American picture—a darkly comic gambling drama that explores fathers and sons, friendship, value, and choice. A game of cat and mouse in which everyone is trapped; a relentless pursuit, a race to the bottom.

Notes from the Director

We made a gambling film with no permits, no budget, minimal script and crew.
It's called $$$.

$$$ was filmed on location throughout NYC, Belmont Racetrack, and Aqueduct Racetrack. The cast is made up of NYC actors and non-actors from the world the film inhabits. They reveal a side of the city that most have never experienced.

$$$ combines documentary vérité footage with guerilla narrative production to create an alternate reality—a visual representation of generational and personal feedback loops. A picture of a cage, capturing attempts at free will.

During the shoot, real money was bet, won, and lost, reflecting the gamble of creating a film in this manner.

After 132 years of racing, Aqueduct Racetrack was recently shut down. $$$ is a love letter to NYC and the people that were born there—and to the horses, who encapsulate the plight of the characters.
